Dave Gahan Gains a Level
Done with work and chores, I can finally say Happy Birthday to the man who’s indomitable spirit and warm voice continue to inspire me and thousands of people world-wide. Dave Gahan turns 49 today, but as I like to tell many friends… it’s not getting older, it’s gaining experience! In Dave’s case, he probably gains +10 awesome, +3 vocals, +5 cheekiness, loots some salt and pepper, and gains a hotness bonus.
Congratulations, too, on 15 years of sobriety and recognition for what has been a long journey. Receiving the Stevie Ray Vaughn Award for this accomplishment and his active contributions to helping other musicians overcome addiction is well-deserved. Dave’s creative contributions (with and without DM) to the world also lift spirits each and every day, whether it’s taming road rage, provoking thought, or consoling deep depressions. Cheers to many more years of wonderful music, and a long, happy life for someone who’s earned it (and then some).
I was unable to attend the MusiCares event, but YouTube user and friend MissHouseGirl was there to capture the action with her lovely camera. For the best and most complete clips of the event on the internet, check out her channel. She has all the songs Dave performed, save for The Damned’s “New Rose,” which can be found here.
