Day 22 & 23 Comedy and Tragedy

Day 22: A Depeche Mode song that makes you laugh

“Monument,” hands down. I mean, “My monument; It fell down”? Seriously? From the lyrics to the bizarre boing-like sounds and plinks… This song is a total Beavis and Butthead moment. All I can ever think of when I hear it is p3nis* humor, so there you go. Check out the gem on YouTube.

Day 23: A Depeche Mode song that makes you cry

Hrm… I can’t recall a Depeche studio recording that made me cry on first hearing it, or one that does so regularly. The only two answers I can think of are cheaters: 1) A repeat: Walking in My Shoes, when live and in the flesh, usually gets the waterworks going. 2) A solo song: I cried when I first heard Dave’s “Miracles” (it’s like it gives me permission, don’t hate!) still gets me kinda choked up due to associated memories now, too.

Amanda

Amanda is an enthusiastic, globe-trotting Mode fan who discovered the band in late 1998. Although she often feels like she got a late start in the Depeche Mode's career, she's survived nearly 20 years of the fandom, five new albums and multiple meetings with her love for the band intact (and stronger than ever). Amanda is a life-long creative, a classically trained graphic designer, working professionally as a User Experience Designer for one of the world's largest technology companies. When not at work or traveling for Depeche, she enjoys character illustration, comics, movies and Japanese Culture. And cats. Lots of Cats.
